Weird, Wack & Wonderful: Here Are Our 2020 Highlights

Josh and Hannah Purnell
Whew. It’s tough to say anything about this year that hasn’t already been said. Like most people, we started it out giddy…and then March hit. Weeks passed. Pandemic raged. Political fights dragged on. The world seemed at once both eerily still and engulfed in flames. At the same time, much of our creative work ground to a screeching halt. We were sad and scared. So much, that at times it felt impossible to take even the tiniest step forward. But we sucked it up and did it anyway.

We funneled our energy into small, precious projects, and we even unearthed some new gigs. Were they way outside our comfort zone? Yeah. But if 2020 taught us anything, it’s that comfort is fleeting. And despite everything this year threw at us, it’s been an undeniable win. We now have a bunch of new skills and a renewed commitment to gettin’ busy livin’ in 2021.

AAA Club Alliance | Pandemic Travel Video

Remember travel? We sure do. We’d almost forgotten how long we’d been cooped up, but it all came rushing back the moment we stepped foot in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to film this video helping travelers understand what it’s like to fly during the age of COVID-19.

We’ve always loved working with the team at AAA, and this project was no exception. In helping share their message, we learned a lot about the critical resources CVG provides over and above daily travel. And we got a little taste of the travel life we miss so much to satisfy our wanderlust and keep us dreaming about all the happy traveling that awaits us on the other side.

The Happy Camper Cannabis Co. | Expert Content

The Happy Camper CBD

Some moons ago, we were commissioned to write a piece in Edible Ohio Valley that would educate readers about the exploding CBD market and the proposed benefits of this so-called “wonder plant.” In our research, we were fortunate to meet some amazing cannabis farmers, producers, and educators. It sparked a passion, and cannabis education and expertise-building are now an area of focus for our business.

We’ve partnered with The Happy Camper for several years now, and we’re always impressed with their passion, enthusiasm, and willingness to try new approaches. This year, we helped solidify their position as industry experts with new site content, videos, blogs, and paid social. If you’re interested in exploring the benefits of hemp, we highly recommend—that’s not a pun; CBD doesn’t get you high—checking them out at happycampercbd.com.

Intercommunity Justice & Peace Center | Rethinking Racism Video

Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center (IJPC)

The ink is barely dry on this new partnership, but we’re way too excited not to share. We’ve been longtime fans of the IJPC and their work to fight racial injustice in our communities. Their new “Rethinking Racism” bus tour was designed to place everyday participants in physical spaces of racial significance that include Jennie Davis Porter Park, King Records, and others. Of course…2020 had other plans.

But the IJPC were undeterred. Shifting gears, they asked for our help to produce a full-length digital version of the tour that will capture the up-close-and-personal aspects, while delivering historic facts and hard truths via some of Cincinnati’s leaders in the fight for racial justice. We’re honored and humbled to be part of this project, which will be released early next year.

Clermont County CVB | Tri-state Warbird Flying Showcase Video

Yes, we realize this is a second project involving air travel, but what can we say? We have a type. The Tri-state Warbird Museum is, in our opinion, one of the most underrated places in all of Greater Cincinnati. We had the pleasure of being connected through our longtime partners at the Clermont County Convention & Visitors Bureau, and we’ve been obsessed ever since.

Its mission is to preserve the memory and spirit of those who fought in World War II by restoring and maintaining original aircraft and artifacts, as well as hosting memorable events including the annual Flying Showcase. This year, due to Covid-19, the event was held outdoors on a gorgeous September day, where guests enjoyed good food, drinks, and an incredible air show. (And we also got a chance to flirt shamelessly with WWII survivors who are as handsome and charming as ever.)
